Complementary Alternative Medicine in Supporting the Treatment of Lyme Disease

Presented by Dr. Wes Rocki MD, PhD

Examples of patient testimonials:

For the first time in years I am experiencing happiness and joy in my everyday life! I am confident I am in the process of much healing physically, emotionally, and mentally (even in spite of continued physical symptoms).  My Lyme specialist Dr. Z……. is giving my body what it needs to sustain, support, nourish, and heal physically, while Dr. Rocki is coaching me in making radical life changes.  This multidimensional approach to healing has resulted in much progress in EVERY area of my life.  My changed attitude and perspective is supporting my physical healing, giving my body the energy it needs to better deal with the illnesses.  And as my body is strengthened physically, it has given me the window of opportunity to be able to focus on these life changing tools.  The two very different treatments complement and support each other, thus making much progress in every way.  I invite you, anyone and everyone, to join in the fun. (Amy B.)

I have been stuck in my experience of chronic Lyme disease (making no progress and actually feeling worse) when my doctor recommended me to see Dr. Wes Rocki. Working with him, I regained my hope and felt ready to tackle my illness with the self-healing strategies and tools Dr. Wes offered me.  I have learned to own my health circumstances and that empowered me to actively participate in my own healing. Under Dr. Rocki’s directions and encouragement my self-healing work brought not only improvement in my symptoms but also positive changes in several other aspects of my life.  I highly recommend Dr. Wes for whatever ails you. (Helen R.)

How does alternative medicine contribute to treatment of Lyme disease?

The management of Lyme disease, which affects multiple systems and organs, is a typical example of when the integration of alternative medicine with conventional care is necessary. This is because Lyme disease is known as the “modern masquerader,” as it can mimic arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Bell’s palsy, multiple sclerosis, ALS, Alzheimer’s, and other neurological disorders. As Lyme disease progresses, it can attack the nervous system, producing learning disabilities, mood swings, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, obsessive behavior, sudden rages and other psychiatric disorders.

Most patients visit many medical specialists before they encounter one knowledgeable about Lyme disease. But even those doctors differ widely in terms of the strategies and protocols they use. Typically, patients receive a broad range of interventions, including long-term intravenous antibiotics, nutritional supplements and a variety of pharmaceuticals aimed at relieving particular symptoms. Often, their treatments are quite aggressive and cause side effects. It is also difficult to define the criteria of recovery and decide on the duration of the treatments.

To deal with all these complexities, Lyme disease patients have to become educated, active participants in their care. Practically, they need to become “their own doctors,” able and willing to listen to their own bodies and to use their intuition to contribute to the medical decision-making process. Brain fog, depression, mental exhaustion and other emotional aspects of chronic Lyme disease often challenge that responsibility.

To help patients manage Lyme disease, Dr. Rocki uses healing strategies that recognize that Lyme disease affects the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of health equally. Among those tools are: hypnotherapy, neurolinguistic programming (NLP), intuitive healing, biofeedback, transcutaneous acupressure, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Reiki, nutrients, supplements and essential oils.

Because he has expertise with a variety of healing strategies, Dr. Rocki is able to adjust the spectrum of his service to complement the care patients are receiving from their conventional medical practitioners. This diversified healing strategy enhances the body’s capacity for self-healing through supporting immune function and other body’s defenses.

Hypnotherapy and other mind-relaxing and focusing techniques help patients manage their chronic stress and inspect and resolve any underlying inner emotional conflicts, beliefs, and attitudes that are not aligned with healing. That strategy alone empowers patients to actively contribute to their treatments and manage their healing teams. Patients can move from the self-defeating, victim attitude into a positively motivated participant doing their own research and facilitating communication among specialists. Using biofeedback, guided imagery and energy medicine, Dr. Rocki teaches patients to positively influence their body’s functions and systems, such as the immune system. Using special nutrients, diets, supplements and essential oils completes this task.

Some patients benefit from spiritual assistance as a healing tool, which is individually defined by each patient depending on one’s spiritual and cultural traditions. Dr. Rocki meets patients in their spiritual safety zone and helps them enhance it into an essential healing resource. He is uniquely qualified to offer a wide spectrum, flexible spiritual assistance as he was trained as a non-denominational chaplain.
